HPC Registered
For some time the recognised qualification of many health professionals has been State Registration (SRCh). This system has now changed. The reason for this is to ensure patients can recognise a practitioner with a known qualifcation to a set standard.
This now applies to chiropody, or podiatry, as it is to be known. This new term podiatry will be introduced over a period of time, although it must be said that the term chiropody or chiropodist will perhaps never be eliminated.
The profession of chiropody / podiatry is now a protected title. This means that any prospective client will know that any practitioner calling themselves a chiropodist / podiatrist will have achieved a recognised standard set down by the Health Professions Council (HPC). Any person who is not registered with the HPC, yet still calling themselves a chiropodist / podiatrist is falling foul of the law, and should be reported to the HPC without delay. This will ensure that the public are protected and those practitioners who are registered are recognised for their qualification.
Both Mrs and Mr Allen have Batchelor of Science (BSc) Degrees in Podiatry since 1996, and were previously State Registered (SRCh), however as staed above this has now been replaced by HPC Registered. Some of the previous 'chiropodists' who were not suitably qualified have now had to undergo a 'top-up' and can now be known as HPC registered. Most practitioners who have been trained to the previous standard (SRCh) will make this known in their literature or website.
